See the Buick Envision for Yourself

The latest version of the Buick Envision continues the evolution of the popular compact crossover SUV with more power from the engine, new nine-speed gearbox, a bit of styling modernization and more tech perks to make it one of the most tempting options in its class.

Design of the Buick Envision

The Envision has an elevated rear section which is not very common in its class. A lowered roof usually gives small SUVs a more aggressive look, but also limited headroom for the rear passengers and reduced boot height. The Envision opted for the more practical option with the elevated rear section, which is by no means unattractive.

Bulging front wheel arches continue with a crease along the front and rear doors that creates a streamlined look, while the angled line that stretches from the front doors, through both door handles and all the way to the tail lights work with the roof line to give the rear a narrower look that has a hint of a coupe SUV look, but keeps the practicality of the elevated rear.

The front of the vehicle is a bit more conservative, which is something many will welcome. The elegant grille hosts the badge and is hugged by large headlights. The lower front section has a simple, minimalistic bumper with well placed fog lights.

Interior of the Buick Envision

Interior design of the Buick Envision is very upmarket. Large wood surfaces, good materials, unique infotainment section design, flowing lines and large central console that continues upwards towards the dashboard all combine to create a very elegant feel. Everything is at hand and easy to use, there are plenty of storage spaces, and even some old-fashioned dials for easier operation.

One of the simplest examples of the thought invested in this interior design is the shape and placement of air vents. They are cleverly incorporated into the design, complementing other dashboard elements and not looking like an afterthought, which is common in many models in this class and price range. This general idea of mutually complementary features continues all over the cabin and makes the Envision a really nice place to be in.

The liftgate opens to reveal a nice square loading space with a very simple and practical layout. There are no protruding design elements to hamper practicality and the seats split 60/40 and fold to give a large and almost completely flat floor.

Seats are comfortable both in the front and back and lack of transmission tunnel gives far more legroom to the middle rear passenger. Rear bench seats can also slide and recline for more comfort and practicality.

There is more than enough space for small items around the cabin, with door pockets, bottle and cup holders in the front and back and numerous bins and pockets.

The interior of the Buick Envision is really nice and practical.

Engines and Drive of the Buick Envision

The Envision is powered by one of these two engines: a 2.5 l naturally aspirated with variable valve timing and 2.0 turbo with variable valve timing.

Even though the 2.0 is smaller the turbo makes it noticeably faster than the 2.5.

The 2.5 has 197 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque while the 2.0 turbo has 252 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, despite the added power, the 2.0 consumes just a bit more fuel than the 2.5.

However, despite the obvious advantages of the more modern turbo unit, even the 2.0 has enough power for most everyday tasks. However, the 2.0 packs the real punch, as it pushes the body with ease in all circumstances. It never feels stressed and always seems it has more to give. With the 2.5 the Envision is sufficiently competent. With the 2.0 turbo, it is a joy to drive.

Long trips in the Envision are a breeze. Suspension is reasonably comfortable and standard road bumps will not be a problem. Moreover, sound insulation of the cabin is amazing and even at motorway speeds noise levels are controlled. Add to this ample cabin space, comfortable seats, and plenty of equipment and the Envision is a great choice for longer travels.
